The benefits of TOGAF® certification

Employers use TOGAF® certification to demonstrate that a practitioner has reached a high level of understanding and can apply a global standard inside their organisation.

Enterprise architecture is pivotal to aligning business and IT strategy, and it is how complex technical processes get interpreted for the people who have to fund and govern them. As a framework, TOGAF® lets practitioners respond to business requirements in a structured, well-defined way that can be measured against recognised practice.

Certified professionals can apply the standard to keep an organisation's business goals and its IT function aligned. That is valuable, and it is why individuals looking to progress have recognised the demand and gone after certification.

It has moved beyond the EA role

Demand has grown to the point where it now extends well past enterprise architects. Solution and business architects in particular want to understand and apply the framework. Beyond being an obvious career path, that wider adoption makes collaboration easier: everyone is using the same words for the same things.

As the value of enterprise architecture to strategy grows, so does the need for business and operations managers to understand it. Many of them only need Level 1, but the collective use of one framework is what makes the communication work.

Which level, and which version

• Foundation, Level 1, proves you know the terminology, the structure and the core concepts
• Practitioner, Level 2, proves you can apply them to a scenario
• The current edition is the TOGAF® Standard, 10th Edition. 9.2 remains examinable and is still named in many job specifications and internal standards
